Join us for an unforgettable evening of history, horticulture, and heritage cuisine with renowned garden historian Peter J. Hatch, former Director of Gardens and Grounds at Monticello. With nearly four decades of experience in the restoration and interpretation of historic landscapes, Hatch brings Jefferson’s revolutionary garden legacy to life through engaging storytelling and expert insight.

As the author of four acclaimed books on Thomas Jefferson’s gardens—including his latest, A Rich Spot of Earth—Hatch has lectured across 38 states, sharing his deep knowledge of 18th-century botany and design.

The Evening Includes:

Aperitif

First Course
Chestnut & Celery Root Soup – A velvety French-style starter of roasted chestnuts and root vegetables
Sally Lunn Bread – A warm, enriched colonial loaf served with fresh butter

Main Course
Beef à la Mode – Braised beef in red wine with Jeffersonian herbs and vegetables
Macaroni with Parmesan – A baked “macaroni pie” with imported Parmesan, beloved by Jefferson

Cheese Course
Aged Cheddar & Brie with Quince Paste – Served with toasted bread and preserved orchard fruits

Dessert
Gingerbread with Warm Apple Compote – Spiced molasses cake topped with stewed apples and whipped cream
