Mulled Cider

Enjoy this delicious, autumnal drink this weekend. Recipe featured on WDTV First at 4 with Holly Baratta.

Serves: 4–6
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 1–2 hours

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart fresh apple cider

  • Mulling Spice Packet, or make your own blend with:

    • 2 cinnamon sticks

    • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced

    • 1–2 star anise

    • Zest of 1 orange

    • Zest of 1 lemon

Optional Garnishes:
Fresh orange slices, apple slices, or lemon slices

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cider:
    Pour the apple cider into a medium pot or saucepan.

  2. Add the spices:
    Place your mulling spice packet (or the loose spices if not using a packet) into the cider.

  3. Simmer:
    Heat over low heat and let the cider simmer gently for 1 to 2 hours. Avoid boiling to preserve the flavor.

  4. Serve:
    Remove the spices and ladle the hot cider into mugs. Garnish with fresh slices of orange, apple, or lemon as desired.

  5. To serve cold:
    Let the mulled cider cool, then refrigerate and serve over ice.
