Mulled Cider
Enjoy this delicious, autumnal drink this weekend. Recipe featured on WDTV First at 4 with Holly Baratta.
Serves: 4–6
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 1–2 hours
Ingredients:
1 quart fresh apple cider
Mulling Spice Packet, or make your own blend with:
2 cinnamon sticks
1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
1–2 star anise
Zest of 1 orange
Zest of 1 lemon
Optional Garnishes:
Fresh orange slices, apple slices, or lemon slices
Instructions:
Prepare the cider:
Pour the apple cider into a medium pot or saucepan.Add the spices:
Place your mulling spice packet (or the loose spices if not using a packet) into the cider.Simmer:
Heat over low heat and let the cider simmer gently for 1 to 2 hours. Avoid boiling to preserve the flavor.Serve:
Remove the spices and ladle the hot cider into mugs. Garnish with fresh slices of orange, apple, or lemon as desired.To serve cold:
Let the mulled cider cool, then refrigerate and serve over ice.
